Student internship

Student intership is an integral part of the first and second degree program in the field of Culture and Media Management.

The aim of the internship is to improve the student's competence in management, as well as to verify the theoretical knowledge acquired during the studies.

Completion of the internship is a condition for passing a given year of study.

  1. Internships can be carried out according to two variants described below:
  • Variant A - student internship in an organization selected by the student under the agreement of this organization with the Institute of Culture of the Jagiellonian University,
  • Variant B - recognition of the student's employment/volunteering/internship/professional practice in a selected organization under an individual agreement as a student practice.

The detailed procedure, depending on the selected option, is provided in the section below.

  1. Internships in both variants A and B can be carried out only in organizations whose main activity profile is directly related to culture management and/or media management. Deviation from this rule will result in failing the internship.
  2. The scope of the trainee's duties in both variants A and B must be directly related to culture management and/or media management. Deviation from this rule will result in failing the internship. The student has the opportunity to consult the scope of duties with the coordinator.
  3. The student chooses the organization where he/she will practice.
  4. Internships for first-cycle students are carried out in the amount of 120 hours for full-time students. Internships should be completed in the second year of studies.
  5. Internships for second-cycle students are carried out for 90 hours for full-time students and 60 hours for part-time students. The internship must be completed by the student in the first year of studies.
  6. Internships are not paid. However, other individual solutions are not excluded in the case of proposals from the host institution for internships.
  7. The entry into the electronic system confirming the completion of the internship is made by the internship coordinator on the basis of the set of documents provided by the student to the Institute of Culture of the Jagiellonian University, necessary to complete the internship, depending on the selected option.
  8. Sharing reports prepared during the internship with third parties requires the consent of the internship coordinator and the person accepting the internship.
  9. All disputes related to the course of the internship are settled by the internship coordinators.

Passing conditions:

  1. Signing of the agreement between the Institute of Culture of the Jagiellonian University and the organization accepting the student for practice, at the latest by the end of the winter session. The form of the contract should be downloaded from the website of the Institute of Culture of the Jagiellonian University (Appendix 1 to the Regulations)
  • On behalf of the University, the agreement is signed by the Director of the Institute of Culture of the Jagiellonian University. On behalf of the organization, the contract is signed by its representative.
  • Each student must take care of signing the above-mentioned agreement on their own - therefore, they are obliged to provide two copies of the agreement (originals) to the appropriate coordinator: completed and signed by a representative of the organization that accepts the student for practice. Then the coordinator presents the agreements to the Director of the Institute of Culture of the Jagiellonian University with a request to sign them.
  • One copy of the agreement signed by both parties must remain at the Institute - the second copy should be collected by the student and delivered to the internship organizer.

Note: student internship should start only after obtaining both signatures on two contracts: both the internship organizer and the Director of the Institute of Culture of the Jagiellonian University.

  1. Obtaining a certificate of completion of the internship, confirmed by its organizer (with the signature of the representative of the organization and a stamp).
  • The certificate of completing the internship must include: the date of the internship, the scope of duties performed by the student and the assessment of the student's work expressed by the internship organizer. Failure to include any of the above elements in the document confirming the completion of internships will result in their failure to complete them.
  1. Self-preparation of the internship report confirmed by the student's signature.
  • In the report, the student answers the questions: am I/y/dissatisfied with my internship and why? What competences have I acquired during the internship? Were the practices useful to me?
  • Report format: maximum one A4 page. Note: there is no sample report, each student prepares it independently.
  1. The documents should be completed legibly, indicating the module and degree: first cycle (Bachelor's studies), second cycle (Master's studies).
  2. The set of documents should be delivered to the appropriate internship coordinator.

Passing conditions:

  1. Sending a letter to the Deputy Director of the Institute of Culture for didactics with a request to credit the internship on the basis of employment/volunteering/traineeship/professional practice. Application template on the website of the Institute of Culture (Appendix 2 to the Regulations).
  • The application should be accompanied by a document confirming employment/volunteering/traineeship/professional practice signed by a representative of the organization employing the student. The document must include the working hours, a description of the organization's profile and a detailed description of the student's responsibilities. Lack of any of the above-mentioned elements will result in failing the internship.
  • The condition for a positive consideration of the application is meeting the requirement of the number of hours necessary to complete the student internship, employment in an organization with a profile related to culture and/or media management and the scope of duties corresponding to this profile.
  1. The documents should be completed legibly, indicating the module and degree: first cycle (Bachelor's studies), second cycle (Master's studies).
  2. The set of documents should be delivered to the appropriate internship coordinator.

The deadline for obtaining a credit (i.e. entry in the USOS system) is the last day of the summer make-up session.

The consequence of not meeting the above-mentioned deadline is incurring the costs of repeating the course in the next academic year.
